Questions, answered.
Does it keep playing when my phone is locked?
Yes. Sounds keep playing with the screen locked and through calls and interruptions. You can control playback from the Lock Screen, set a sleep timer with a gentle fade, or let it play all night and fade out by your wake-up time.
Is Sleep Better free?
It's free to download, with a starter set of sounds, one sleep music track, one brainwave beat, one guided meditation, one sleep journey and two affirmation themes. Premium unlocks everything for $4.99/month or $29.99/year, and new subscribers get a 7-day free trial. It renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends.
Which sound should I start with?
If you like a deep, low rumble, try brown noise. If you want something softer and even, try pink noise or steady rain. White noise is the brightest and best at covering sharp sounds like voices. Our noise color guide compares them side by side.
Do I need headphones?
Not for sounds and music; a phone speaker on the nightstand works. Brainwave (binaural) beats are the exception: they rely on a slightly different tone in each ear, so they work best with headphones.
Does it track my sleep?
Sleep Better is not a sleep tracker. If you allow it, it reads your sleep from Apple Health (read-only) to show your 7-night average against your goal and simple trends.
Which devices does it run on?
iPhone with iOS 18.0 or later. The App Store also lists it for iPad and for Mac computers with Apple silicon.
How do I cancel?
Subscriptions are handled by Apple. On your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, choose Sleep Better and tap Cancel Subscription.
